The Objective of this project was to create a poster to describe a decade in the US using old TIME Magazine archives. My decade was for the 40's.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones”         - Albert Einstein
At the height of WW2, The United States Government developed the first atomic bomb. Two atomic bombs were later dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki following the attacks on Pearl Harbor. This came at a time of absolute patriotism within the US. However, this poster isn't specifically about patriotism, more the fact of the looming fear of atomic war between nations that would set the human race and development back to the stone age, if not wipe it out completely. This still hangs over our heads to this day and probably will forever as a statue of “world peace” when it's really just playing chicken with extinction. I emphasize this with my use of the page containing a caveman drawing from Time Magazine and further it by making the page look torn, old and burnt up in areas. For the background I added red and blue streaks while also emphasizing those colors in a picture from a nuke test in the Nevada desert, while also lightening the white in the image. The style of the background art is the same picture duplicated with slight differences to fit into the pop art style that was being born in the 40’s. The subtle oil paint look it has is also used to fit in with the style of ads that were abundant throughout magazines in this decade.
